The benefits of becoming a coach

So, you are thinking of becoming a coach, well that is great news, one for the ever-expanding industry and two for the individuals who are struggling to find their journey in life. The first thing you must realise is that your already a coach, that is why you want to become one. At this time that might be hard to accept but you normally get attracted to a career based on your own basic ability to be able to do that skill, an becoming a coach is no different. In this blog we are going to explore the different types of coaches and is there really a difference. It is also important to know that the term life coach is a buzz word just like many others. You can have 100 life coaches in a room and 100 personal development coaches in a room and you would be standing among a huge diversity in coaching education. Do not just look at the course title but look at what you learn and how you are looked after.

The skills you learn and how to use them

Coaching skills are varied based on the course you take. But when you look at the key aspects of all the coaching courses, they teach you the same thing. For Example,

  • Listening skills
  • How to question someone to develop awareness and change
  • Mindset techniques
  • Motivation concepts
  • Understanding of the human conditions and healing journeys
  • How to guide someone to their own answers
  • Goal planning and success
  • Skills for personal development

No matter the coaching course you study all the above plus more basic concepts are covered, it is just how they are covered. There are so many strategies out there it can become a bit confusing. For example,

  • NLP
  • Mindfulness
  • Law of attraction
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Meditation
  • Psychology
  • Counselling
  • CBT
  • Sound therapy
  • Personal development

The list goes on and on and it always seems like there is another form of therapy that gets created. But it is not a race to prove what therapy is the best one. There are so many types of therapy because there are so many different people in the world. What you study is based on what you have an interest in and how certain individual receive their healing.

You might be thinking by now that if there are so many ways people accept their healing and what I have an interest in might mean I only attract a limited number of clients. So, what do you do? You could just study what you like and help those who receive their healing in that way, or you could choose a course that teaches the principles of multiple coaching concepts. You would then want to look at the support the course gives you not just during the course but afterwards as well.

Just remember no matter the course you choose to study they are just concepts and you have the power as the coach to adapt the techniques so more people can get the coaching they need to start on their healing journey.

Prices of these course come down to a few things. These are is it done face to face or as an online course. This is one of the main reasons for the differing prices. The other thing you might see is the sometimes-huge price difference between all the online courses and the face to face courses. This is normally down to a few things;

  • Course content
  • Face to face hours (for residential course)
  • Resources
  • Time it took to write the material
  • The boldness of the people selling the course
  • The quality of the course content

All courses are a gamble before you sign up and get started but always look at the big picture. Always look at the course price as an investment of what the course gives you. If all you want is knowledge based on the course material, then you really cannot go wrong with any course especially the online ones. But look at how the course will constantly help you after the main course. The price tag is an investment not a debt.

So, it isn’t about what course you study because they are all fundamentally teaching you the same thing. It is about the amount you learn and how the you are looked after during and after the course. Remember you already are a coach all you need to learn some tools and then have the confidence to make them fit so you can help no matter what clients come your way.
